The Pedro Almodóvar Film Festival is organized by Anneliese Thomae Elias, second language Spanish instructor in the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures. About the inspiration for the festival, Thomae Elias shared, "The Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures has been interested since last Fall, with the Guatemalan Film Festival presented in 2023, in featuring films and documentaries from different Spanish-speaking countries for students, the campus, and off-campus communities to showcase the cinematic artistic production from other countries. We want students to be engaged with the Spanish language inside and outside of the classrooms, and we will continue offering each semester these opportunities for our community. We can learn so much from another culture from what we see represented in their film production. For the Pedro Almodóvar festival, viewers will be able to experience subtle aspects of the Spanish culture portrayed on the big screen."
