Guatemalan Film Festival, Fall 2023

 Come enjoy the Guatemalan Film Festival in L.S. Dougherty, hosted by the Dept. of Languages, Literatures, & Cultures at Appalachian State. Four films will be featured:

  • Thursday, September 14, 5:30PM: "Ixcanul" This movie will include dialogues in the Mayan Kaq'chikel language, native from Guatemala (English subtitles).
    Trigger warning: includes scenes or discussion of racism and abortion.
  • Thursday, October 5, 5:30PM: "Temblores" Spanish with English subtitles.
    Trigger warning: includes scenes of violence and homophobia.
  • Thursday, October 26, 5:30PM: "La camioneta" Spanish with English subtitles.
  • Thursday, November 16th, 5:30PM: "Los retornados" Spanish with English subtitles.
    Trigger warning: includes allusion to violence and genocide of Indigenous Peoples.

The DLLC offers a variety of Spanish classes that include learning about the more than 20 different countries and territories where Spanish is spoken, indigenous cultures, and a diversity of linguistic richness. The Guatemalan Film Festival is also sponsored by the Multicultural Center and the College of Education.

Popcorn and drinks will be offered for attendees!
